90 Second Escape: Scenes from a GetHiking! Classic Weekend

Monday — never an easy time for the outdoors enthusiast. After a weekend of adventure, returning to the humdrum work-a-day world can make one melancholy. To help ease the transition, every Monday we feature a 90 Second Escape — essentially, a 90-second video or slide show of a place you’d probably rather be: a trail, a park, a greenway, a lake … anywhere as long as it’s not under a fluorescent bulb.

Today’s 90-Second Escape: Scenes from a GetHiking! Classic Weekend

Our GetHiking! Southeast’s Classic Hikes crew just got back from the first of six hiking weekends planned for the year. Saturday, they hiked a 12-mile stretch of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail along the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Craggy Mountains; Sunday, it was a 4.8-mile climb to the top of Graybeard Mountain in the Montreat Wilderness.

Saturday, above 6,000 feet, they got a taste of winter (complete with snow on the ground); Sunday, was spring hiking at its best, with lots of sun, emerging wildflowers, and even a cranky timber rattler.

Here are scenes from the weekend. For more on our GetHiking! Southeast’s Classic Hikes program, go here.
