90 Second Escape: A Jump on Fall

Monday — never an easy time for the outdoors enthusiast. After a weekend of adventure, returning to the humdrum work-a-day world can make one melancholy. To help ease the transition, every Monday we feature a 90 Second Escape — essentially, a 90-second video or slide show of a place you’d probably rather be: a trail, a park, a greenway, a lake … anywhere as long as it’s not under a fluorescent bulb.

Today’s 90-Second Escape: A Jump on Fall

That first not-so-hot-but-not-quite-cool breeze of late summer always fools us: Fall is near, time for a long hike.

Fall is near — it’s just not near enough. Still, we get excited, we plan a long hike in anticipation. Of course, by the time the hike rolls around, the breeze has died, summer is back.

Sunday morning, our GetHiking! Triangle group took a premature fall hike on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail along Falls Lake north of Raleigh. At 11 miles, the hike might have a been a mile or five long for the conditions. Yet no one complained, perhaps because we all had the same thought on our sweaty minds.

Fall really is near.
