GetOut! Your Nudge for weekend adventure

It’s another weird weekend forecast where Saturday looks good, Sunday not so much. With that in mind, a recommendation or three:

Basin Hike, Sunday, 11 a.m., Fort Fisher State Recreation Area, Kure Beach. One of the coolest 1-mile trails around, taking you over the dunes, through maritime forest and over a salt marsh. Call 910.458.5798 to reserve a spot.

GetHiking! at MLK Holiday Hike at Jordan Lake, Monday, 11 a.m., Jordan Lake State Recreation Area, Apex. The New Hope Overlook double loop is the most hiking you can do at Jordan Lake; come and let hike leader Lori lead the way. Learn more and sign up here.

Winter Tree ID, Saturday, Elk Knob State Park, Grandfather Mountain State Park, Dismal Swamp State Park. Anyone can ID a tree in summer and fall, what with the tell-tale leaves giving all sorts of clues. But in winter? At these three programs you’ll be able to deduce from the bark, the limbs, the tree’s size and configuration just who you’re dealing with. Learn more here.
