Long Trails of the Triangle: Black Creek Greenway
Distance: 7.1 miles
Surface: Paved greenway
Uses: Bicycling, running, walking
Family friendliness: Yes, but use caution at major road crossings including NW Maynard Road, Chapel Hill Road, SW Maynard Road and High House Road.
Vibe: The original 2.5 miles of this trail, opened in the early 1990s, parallels its namesake creek and is noted for its cozy, scenic qualities. The trail as a whole is more utilitarian, linking Lake Crabtree on the northeast with North Cary Park, Godbold Park and Bond Park. At Bond Park, you can take the White Oak Greenway west, eventually to the American Tobacco Trail (it’s possible to detour two of the missing links and make that connection via roads).
