In reply to Jeffp. Hey Jeff, Cyclocross has become big in North Carolina; there's a two-part winter series that attracts a lot of off-season road racers and mountain bikers who race both. I haven't done it myself; your mud-wrestling-in-the-cold-with-a-bike-on-your-back description sums it up for me. However, tomorrow I get to pick up a hand-built, one-of-a kind cross bike and ride it for a week. Maybe I'll change my mind.

Actually, Christina Sorenson (park manager) told me that a total of 8 employess spent at least 1 full day working on the trail, including herself. Of those 8, 4 spent the whole week on the trails.

It’s also worth noting that the Harris Lake staff also manages the Wake County portion of the American Tobacco Trail. The fact that they devoted so much time to get the trails up to race condition is so much appreciated.
