I did a long hike on the AT many years ago - the worst physical problem I had was dehydration cramps (first day); I had great socks which protected my feet and silk liners (silk glove liners, too) (merino would surely have been better); I picked up a couple of cherry hiking sticks along the way (after leaving a single aluminum pole in the back of someone&#039;s pick-up truck) - and two poles is more than twice as good as a single pole, even the &quot;old school&quot; poles.]]></description>
