Just tried it out yesterday (Sunday, May 21). It is all in pretty good tip top shape except for the complicated bridge they are building over a ravine at the Merideth College bridge over 440. They have driven pylons. June 25 *may* be OK.

As other pointed out, a nice touch is the landscaping and hiking trails near Crabtree and Glen Eden park. This will be a nice impression for tourists to check out in the area.

I've been waiting forever for this. Finally a way to get to Umstead safely.

You are a riding advertisement for cycling, Scooter. If/when the rain stops, I'm going for a ride.

I bike commute everyday from Eden Croft (Glen Eden Pilot Park) to work, almost 100% greenway up to my office across from Whole Foods North Raleigh. Another critical thing the trail offers is allowing hundreds of cyclists a safe way to get from Crabtree to Umstead and Reedy Creek. I cannot tell you how many times I have narrowly avoided high speed accidents with cars going up and down the "Blue Ridge Hill" from the mall. I think drivers imagine themselves as being on Blue Ridge Parkway through there - great fun for turbo charged sports cars - not so fun for bikes!

But anyway, since I am on the new trail everyday I talk to everyone working on it. Those are indeed hiking trails and spurs they are creating between Crabtree Mall and Glen Eden Pilot Park. They are building several foot bridges and have spent thousands on planting dozens and dozens of trees. The pilons off to one side is where they are putting in a covered gazebo / observation deck beside House Creek and it looks like they plan on running one of the hiking paths through it. I have ridden most of the greenways around town and I have to say nothing compares to cruizing this stretch at sunrise with light fog and the huge tall trees in the morning :).

We went down the paved portion from Crabtree McDonald's to Glen Eden. Completely paved - all of the landscaping and planting seems done with the exception of a few of those plastic temporary fences and some rock piles. Grass is coming in. Lovely new trees planted along the way, and access to a picnic shelter that is along the back of Glen Eden Park. It looks like there might be some hiking trails branching off from the paved portion - not sure about that.

Very excited to see much paving from Glen Eden toward Lake Boone Trail. But no paving at all at Lake Boone, although the tunnel is in.
