Making first tracks, of course, is a joy. It’s when you start crossing paths with other ski tracks, mountain bike tread, hiking boot imprints and snow angels that it gets challenging.

Alas, we were deceived; we’ve got maybe two inches here at the Cary bureau, not enough for our needs.

We always x-country ski when we visit Minnesota in the winter. But it is on groomed trails. What is it like to ski on ungroomed trails? I imagine pretty hard.
