To help ease the transition, every Monday we feature a 90 Second Escape — essentially, a 90-second video of a place you’d probably rather be: a trail, a park, a greenway, a lake … anywhere as long as it’s not under a fluorescent bulb.
Today’s 90-Second Escape: Holy Moses

Sunday, Hana and I found ourselves on what I tend to forget is one of the best trails in the state: the carriage trails at Moses Cone Park. The 25-mile trail network was built to accommodate the horse carriages of Greensboro textile magnate Moses H.Cone. The landscape was manicured to resemble the best of the Blue Ridge. Though you will encounter some elevation change — the Manor House is at about 4000 feet, the base 3500 feet — the trails work with the landscape and are well-tended: the trails are equally popular with trail runners, not to mention the equestrians who continue to use the network.

A great winter hike. Even if the Blue Ridge Parkway closes because of weather, the network is accessible from US 221 at Bass Lake, just outside of Blowing Rock. And if the Parkway is closed because of wintry weather, there’s a good bet that the trail system will assume yet another recreational identity:
Cross-country ski network.
