Monday — never an easy time for the outdoors enthusiast. After a weekend of adventure, returning to the humdrum work-a-day world can make one melancholy. To help ease the transition, every Monday we feature a 90 Second Escape — essentially, a 90-second video or slide show of a place you’d probably rather be: a trail, a park, a greenway, a lake … anywhere as long as it’s not under a fluorescent bulb.
Today’s 90-Second Escape: Modern Rafters
I was witness during the spring and sumer to the birth of an ambitious raft trip conceived by my stepson Ben and his buddies Colin, Alex and Alex. Using recycled and donated wood and pickle barrels, the foursome spent weekends building a four-man (sorta) raft for a three-day trip on the Cape Fear River.
One of the Alexes documented the project and the trip. It comes in at 286 seconds worth of escape, 196 seconds more than our usual, but it’s well worth it, especially if you’re a fan of pure, from-the-ground-up, unadulterated, adventure.
Enough words. Enjoy the trip.
