90 Second Escape: (A return to) Blue Skies

Monday — never an easy time for the outdoors enthusiast. After a weekend of adventure, returning to the humdrum work-a-day world can make one melancholy. To help ease the transition, every Monday we feature a 90 Second Escape — essentially, a 90-second video or slide show of a place you’d probably rather be: a trail, a park, a greenway, a lake … anywhere as long as it’s not under a fluorescent bulb.

Today’s 90-Second Escape: (A return to) Blue Skies

As I sat over the weekend and watched a hard-earned tan (running, a summer of paddling, a fall of hiking) fade from my arms under another day of overcast skies, I realized I was having trouble recalling what exactly a blue sky looked like. For one, what kind of blue was it, again? Was it Egyptian blue? Periwinkle? Navy? I couldn’t remember.

But then I did remember a 90 Second Escape from January 2012, a similarly gray period, apparently. It’s called “Blue Skies,” and it catalogs a number of lovely blue skies, some made all the more so by a scattering of scudding cumulus. I’ve watched it several times and can feel my vitamin D levels rise each time.

Oh, and by the way: the color of a cloudless sky? it’s azure. Check it out and see for yourself.
