Monday — never an easy time for the outdoors enthusiast. After a weekend of adventure, returning to the humdrum work-a-day world can make one melancholy. To help ease the transition, every Monday we feature a 90 Second Escape — essentially, a 90-second video or slide show of a place you’d probably rather be: a trail, a park, a greenway, a lake … anywhere as long as it’s not under a fluorescent bulb.
Today’s 90-Second Escape: Early morning hike
We’re entering that time of year when it’s just too hot to hike in the daytime. The hard core among us will opt for shorter hikes in the evening, after work, when the temperatures are starting to cool. Sorta.
But there’s another option, a cooler option. It’s one that few of us care to contemplate because it involves getting up before sunrise and reaching the trailhead just before official sunrise. (Today, for instance, that would be before 5:59 a.m.) One the one hand, you’ll experience the coolest temperatures of the day, often 20 degrees cooler than the daytime high. On the other, there’s that sleep thing.
Since most of you likely won’t see a 6 a.m. trail time, we thought we’d show you what one looks like. Tempting, no?
