90 Second Escape: Spring, now!

Monday — never an easy time for the outdoors enthusiast. After a weekend of adventure, returning to the humdrum work-a-day world can make one melancholy. To help ease the transition, every Monday we feature a 90 Second Escape — essentially, a 90-second video or slide show of a place you’d probably rather be: a trail, a park, a greenway, a lake … anywhere as long as it’s not under a fluorescent bulb.

Today’s 90-Second Escape: In Search of Spring

Talk about greedy: The temperature finally tops 70 — for a day — then gets into the 60s for another day, and suddenly we expect spring to energe overnight.

Save for the lovely serenade of the spring peepers, we were stymied in our attempt to find signs of spring this weekend, despite two days of diligent searching along Falls Lake, the Eno River and at Umstead. No trout lilies, no spring beauties. Don’t recall even seeing a tree bud.

No doubt those signs will start emerging this week, as temperatures stay in the 50s and 60s. But being the impatient type, we need a sign or two now! Thus, today’s look back at spring unfurling in the Piedmont last year.
