90 Second Escape: A winter backpack

Monday — never an easy time for the outdoors enthusiast. After a weekend of adventure, returning to the humdrum work-a-day world can make one melancholy. To help ease the transition, every Monday we feature a 90 Second Escape — essentially, a 90-second video or slide show of a place you’d probably rather be: a trail, a park, a greenway, a lake … anywhere as long as it’s not under a fluorescent bulb.

Today’s 90-Second Escape: A Winter Backpack

Among the reasons we look forward to fall: the fall/winter backpacking season. The cool days, the cold nights. The quiet. Getting away from it all doesn’t get any better than with a pack on your back in autumn and winter. (A quick plug: If you aren’t a backpacker but are intrigued, check out our GetBackpacking! program: three weeks of training followed by a weekend backpack trip; learn more here.)

To put you in mind of what’s to come, we share 90 Seconds of a trip from 2014 on a stretch of the Appalachian Trail north of the James River in Virginia.
