Monday — never an easy time for the outdoors enthusiast. After a weekend of adventure, returning to the humdrum work-a-day world can make one melancholy. To help ease the transition, every Monday we feature a 90 Second Escape — essentially, a 90-second video or slide show of a place you’d probably rather be: a trail, a park, a greenway, a lake … anywhere as long as it’s not under a fluorescent bulb.
Today’s 90-Second Escape: Surf’s Up
The first 80-degree day of the year always gets us thinking about one thing: our first visit of the season to the coast. Granted, the water temperature always takes a while to catch up: the Atlantic nudged the thermometer to 60 this morning; it won’t reach 80 until June. But you can still throw down a towel, listen to the surf and melt away from day-to-day life. Which is the plan for today.
We sent intern Emily Reeves from N.C. State down to Atlantic Beach recently; she returned with 90 seconds (94 actually; she’s an over-achiever) of pre-season surf. Coupled with the Avett Brothers’ “At the Beach,” it’s the ideal remedy for a melancholy Monday.
