Comer summer our hiking thoughts generally turn to the high country, but there’s plenty of great hiking to be had in the Piedmont — you just have to know when to do it and where to hike. Here’s our summer 2021 of hiking.
GetHiking! Summer Sunday Morning Hike Series
- 12 hikes
- Sundays at 9 a.m., June 6 – Aug. 22
- $125 for single hikers, $195 for couples and families

Hiking in summer is a matter of when to hike (early!) and where (shaded trails and along water, for starters). We kept those factors in and when we came up with our 12-hike summer schedule. GetHiking! Summer 2021 Tuesday Evening Hike Series

Make the most of your summer evenings with this 10-hike series of weekly Tuesday evening hikes on various trails throughout the Triangle. Hikes are 3-4 miles each, on different trails each week, each well suited for evening hikes. We have 10 hikes planned on some of the Triangle’s best hidden gems. Make the most of your weekend by starting it Friday morning with this 8-hike series of wake-up hikes on various trails throughout the Triangle. Hikes are 3-4 miles each, on different trails each week, each well suited for a morning hike.

GetHiking! Get Comfortable with an Evening Hike
- Zoom classroom session and a Wednesday evening hike
- March and April sessions available
- Handouts: GetHiking! Rule the Dark! Tips for Hiking After Dark, and GetHiking! Top 10 Evening Hikes
- $65 for individuals, $95 for couples and families
- Each hike limited to 7
Take the trepidation out of taking an after-work hike with with our two-part GetHiking! Get Comfortable with an Evening Hike class. Learn the tricks of hiking as daylight fades to night, then join us on an evening hike. It’s a great way to work in a mid-week hike and to hike the trails when they’re the least crowded.

GetHiking! New River Paddling and Hiking Weekend

Enjoy a mountain weekend of paddling on a placid stretch of the New River in North Carolina, and hikes up both Mount Jefferson and Elk Knob, both with sweeping views of the North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee mountains. This is a basecamp weekend with meals included.

In just two weeks you can become a bonafide backpacker in time for the prime fall hiking season. We start with a gear session via Zoom, then meet for a 5-hour in-field training session before our weekend graduation trip to South Mountains State Park.
