Monday — never an easy time for the outdoors enthusiast. After a weekend of adventure, returning to the humdrum work-a-day world can make one melancholy. To help ease the transition, every Monday we feature a 90 Second Escape — essentially, a 90-second video or slide show of a place you’d probably rather be: a trail, a park, a greenway, a lake … anywhere as long as it’s not under a fluorescent bulb.
Today’s 90-Second Escape: Winter on the Eno
Not everyone embraces the winter hike. For some, it’s the cold, for others, it’s the perceived lack of scenery.
Sunday, we had a chance to dispel those notions with our GetHiking! Corporate Wellness hikers from Quintiles. Too cold? Yes, when you first get out of the car and step into mid-30s temperatures enhanced by periodic gusts, it’s … bracing (“invigorating is how my mother would put it,” said one hiker). But start moving, climb a ridge or two, and your body warms to the task.
As for the scenery, one hiker remarked on the gray and brown. “I like it better when it’s all green.” Added a fellow hiker, “Yes, but now you can see everything, get a feel for the land.”
In case you missed it yesterday, here’s 90 Seconds of a wonderful winter day in the woods, along Orange and Durham county’s Eno River.
