Monday — never an easy time for the outdoors enthusiast. After a weekend of adventure, returning to the humdrum work-a-day world can make one melancholy. To help ease the transition, every Monday we feature a 90 Second Escape — essentially, a 90-second video or slide show of a place you’d probably rather be: a trail, a park, a greenway, a lake … anywhere as long as it’s not under a fluorescent bulb.
Today’s 90-Second Escape: Sublime Spring
Spring is considered a time of renewal, of new beginnings. Of boundless energy.
Yet it can also be a time of supreme calm, especially on those few days when spring is in transition, when the trees have budded, but not leafed, painting the land in a soft-focus world of pastels, of dreamy wonder. Winter is an icicle, summer a brightly colored, quiescently frozen treat. Spring? A Creamsicle, its color, as well as its flavor, muted. A rare treat to be had once a year.
In the Piedmont, that treat was to be had yesterday. A puffy sea of soft greens, yellows, reds and oranges backlit by a pristine blue sky scrubbed clean of clutter by a blustery cold front passing through the the night before. The kind of day you could relive over and over.
