Monday — never an easy time for the outdoors enthusiast. After a weekend of adventure, returning to the humdrum work-a-day world can make one melancholy. To help ease the transition, every Monday we feature a 90 Second Escape — essentially, a 90-second video of a place you’d probably rather be: a trail, a park, a greenway, a lake … anywhere as long as it’s not under a fluorescent bulb.
Today’s 90-Second Escape: Garner’s White Deer Park.
I love discovering a new park, and was especially thrilled a couple years back when my daughter Hana and I discovered Garner’s White Deer Park, which opened in 2009. The park had a nice path for cycling — a path that was recently connected to Timber Drive by a one-mile greenway — fun playgrounds and fields for open play. And should you get tired of this park, cross Lake Benson Road to Lake Benson Park.
I did a short film on the park after we discovered it, decided it was worth revisiting today.
Enjoy.

Right in my backyard! One can then cross Timber into the Heather Hills neighborhood and go to South Garner Park and there are a couple of .5 mile loops within a nice forested area.
There was a plan in place to link Lake Benson with Lake Wheeler from 2006 but I cant find any more recent info: http://www.city-data.com/forum/raleigh-durham-chapel-hill-cary/320283-greenway-planned-between-lake-wheeler-lake.html
I hadn’t heard about this. I’ll look into it and report back next week.
I found a direct link to Garner’s master plan which also has a map showing the potential greenway: http://www.garnernc.gov/Publications/Parks%20and%20Recreation/PR_MasterPlan2007.pdf
Im looking forward to learning what you found out!
