90 Second Escape: Mount Rogers

Monday — never an easy time for the outdoors enthusiast. After a weekend of adventure, returning to the humdrum work-a-day world can make one melancholy. To help ease the transition, every Monday we feature a 90 Second Escape — essentially, a 90-second video or slide show of a place you’d probably rather be: a trail, a park, a greenway, a lake … anywhere as long as it’s not under a fluorescent bulb.

Today’s 90-Second Escape: Mount Rogers

Do you have a go-to place? Or at least a place you like to think of as your go-to place? A place that, in your mind at least, you retreat to on a regular basis? A place you claim to know well, that you speak with authority about? A place so vivid in your mind that it couldn’t possibly be nearly three years since you’ve been there, or that you’ve only been to —

Three times!? Seriously?

For me, that place is the Mount Rogers/Grayson Highlands area of Virginia. A place so unique and special that if you visit once — or three times — you feel you know it intimately.

Alas, I know I won’t be getting to my special place anytime soon. So I’ll do the next best thing: relive 90 seconds of my last visit.
