Monday — never an easy time for the outdoors enthusiast. After a weekend of adventure, returning to the humdrum work-a-day world can make one melancholy. To help ease the transition, every Monday we feature a 90 Second Escape — essentially, a 90-second video or slide show of a place you’d probably rather be: a trail, a park, a greenway, a lake … anywhere as long as it’s not under a fluorescent bulb.
Today’s 90-Second Escape: Waning fall color along the Haw River
Fall color was set to peak this weekend in the Piedmont. After weeks of a great set-up — of cloudless days, of cool nights, of dry days — we were headed for stellar color.
Then the rain came. And the cold.
Oh, well. Saturday was still a memorable day in the woods. Temperatures in the 40s, a light rain and gray skies gave the first day of November a wintry feel. Muted color, but color nonetheless. Come and see, on a walk along the Haw River.
