We’ll end the suspense on the weekend weather forecast by simply saying it calls for more of the same: temperatures in the low- to mid-90s, chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

That rain that moved through the region yesterday ushered in a cool front that will drop temperatures into the low 80s throughout much of GetGoingNC’s adventure land, ideal weather for some weekend adventure. There may be a rogue thunderstorm or two Sunday afternoon, but by-and-large, pretty delightful weather.
Monday, Monday: The weekend in review
Monday: we find it hard to transition from a weekend of adventure to a workweek of … work. So we typically find ourself easing into reality with a bit of weekend reflection. Or daydreaming as some might call it …
Today, we find ourself back on the trail at Raven Rock State Park Sunday afternoon. Now, if you were at Raven Rock around 12:30 you likely found yourself in a queue waiting to get into the popular park, which is currently limiting access due to the pandemic. That’s if you were trying to get into the main part of the park, on the south side of the Cape Fear River. Ah, but if you had been with us on the north side of the park, in the Avents Creek Access Area, you would have had far less company — and most of it four-footed.

I can’t recall going into a Memorial Day weekend that felt less like a Memorial Day weekend.
Typically, this much-anticipated three-day hiatus marks not just the beginning of summer, but the end of the year’s most sustained run in the salt mines. For five straight months, we typically toil away, indulging in a federal holiday or two, but saving our sacrosanct vacation days for summer. From New Year’s Day to Memorial Day, it’s pretty much work, work, work.
