Memorial Day — and the start of summer!
OK, technically summer doesn’t begin until the summer solstice on June 20. But culturally in the U.S. summer always commences Memorial Day weekend and ends Labor Day weekend. (And yes, technically summer doesn’t officially end until the summer equinox, this year on September 22).

GetBackpacking! Summer 2021
Summer is opening up: we’re beginning to travel again and, though our tendency is to still stay close to home, still focus on the great outdoors for our recreation fun. We hear you, folks. So far, here’s our regionally focused lineup for the summer of 2021:

Last year around this time, I was licking my chops over a great lineup of backpack trips I intended to take, including four short thru-hikes in the state. I even managed to get in two trips (including one of the thru-hikes) before I was forced to scrap my plans for the pandemic.
