90 Second Escape: Hot Weather, Cool Water Hiking
Monday — never an easy time for the outdoors enthusiast. After a weekend of adventure, returning to the humdrum work-a-day world can make one melancholy. To help ease the transition, every Monday we feature a 90 Second Escape — essentially, a 90-second video or slide show of a place you’d probably rather be: a trail, a park, a greenway, a lake … anywhere as long as it’s not under a fluorescent bulb.
Your weekend: Frogs, flowers, fleet feet
Cliffs of the Neuse State Park celebrates the frog, Haw River State Park celebrates wild flowers, and Asheville celebrates the fleet of foot with a trail run. It all happens Saturday, your last chance to celebrate April.

Your weekend: Present, Past, Fast
Detach your kids from their electronics and get them to live in the present (at least for 45 minutes) at Merchants Millpond; expose them to true culture shock with a look at how kids used to play in Saura times; or, head to the mountains and catch skateboarders on the fast track.
Your weekend: Hike the coast, clean a lake, ride the mountains
Looking for motivation to get your youngsters outside? How about a meat-eating plant! Meanwhile, there’s a lake in the Triangle that could use your TLC, and a ride in the mountains that promises to be just plain fun.
