The weather people said a cold front was coming. They said the air would be drier. They said the daytime highs would drop into the mid-70s and that it cool off to 60 overnight. After weeks of soggy, sweaty days in the low 90s, it was easy to be skeptical. But when front finally hit it was easy to drop whatever and reunite with the outdoors.

Today’s 90-Second Escape: Summer Plods On
In the beginning, we can’t wait for summer to begin. Come Memorial Day, the neighborhood pool opens, we start counting the days — not weeks or months — until our beach vacation, we abandon the kitchen for the backyard grill. And it’s easy to see why: summer is a sly seductress, immediately giving us the heat we crave while holding back on the humidity that makes us wilt.
Another pitch for the weekend
Looks like a hit, dry weekend over much of the state, with temperatures suitable for doing a raft of activities.
Rafting, for instance, which I would be doing if I were in Charlotte, where the mercury is supposed to hit 97 Sunday. Sounds like a good reason to visit the National Whitewater Center. Other thoughts (in addition to yesterday’s suggestions):
